Learn & Pull Volunteer Series: Final Day on the Ashokan Rail Trail

From pulling invasive species to restoring native habitat, this season has been powered by community. Join us on the Ashokan Rail Trail as we celebrate the final day of our Learn & Pull Volunteer Series.

Date: Saturday, June 13, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Location: 3045 NY-28, Shokan, NY 12481

We’ll begin the day with a final push to remove invasive plants, continuing our restoration efforts along the trail until approximately 11:45 AM. Afterward, we’ll gather for a picnic to celebrate the incredible work our volunteers and program leaders have made throughout the season.

Join us to give back, connect with the community, and celebrate the impact you’ve helped make across the Catskills.

During the program, we’ll walk approximately 1/10 of a mile from the Shokan Station parking lot to our worksite, where we’ll review tool safety, invasive species identification, and best removal practices for our target species.

We’ll be working hands-on in an off-trail area, pulling invasive species such as common buckthorn, multiflora rose, and bittersweet. This work will help prepare the site for the planting of 120 native saplings later this season.

Frequent breaks are encouraged, and water and snacks will be provided. Please dress for work in areas that may include poison ivy, brambles, or ticks.

Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.
